Anshika Gauri Agrawal
Anshika Gauri Agrawal is an emerging artist born and brought up in Delhi, where she continues to live and create. Her works delves into the realms of human connection, emotion and surreal experiences. A graduate of the prestigious College of Art, Delhi, her journey into art began in her childhood, where she found peace in creative expression. She would often colour the walls of her house, and playfully blaming it on her sister. Though she never initially envisioned a career in art, it was art that ultimately chose her, guiding her back to where she belonged.
Working with different mediums, Anshika has been exploring the possibility of colours, textures, and distortion of forms. Her art provides an autobiographical identity spectrum that often carries a sense of femininity allegory. Through her works, she mythologises
herself, creating characters that often exist in non-human environments. The characters in her paintings are often painted as “Banjarans”, or wanderers, seeking to find their home in an endless void. In search and fulfilment of this craving, she creates dreamy scapes that help her realise the reality. Her paintings talk about a transformative journey towards a complete human, in midst of the daily life, the maya. Like every season changes, our difficulties and perspectives towards life changes, and a new life is born.
Her art practice revolves around the infinite relationship between the cosmos and humans, with compositions that reflect her visions of a fantastical world where nothing is right or wrong, all that exists is “love”. Anshika views her work as a love song- which could be for the universe, the lost love or maybe herself. Her work shows the individual journey of a person to its higher self, which could be from ego to love or from projections to reality. For Anshika, painting is a tool to reach the higher realms, and she hopes that her art will inspire others to seek their own truth.
