Amita, mother of four, started her journey as an artist from her home- based in Shimla. She dreamt
of becoming a painter since childhood and found her dreams fulfilled when she met Mr. S.K.
Chatterjee who encouraged her to pursue her craft. Here she learnt the nuances of Kangra (miniature)
paintings- an age old art form of Himachal Pradesh. She says ‘Painting is like meditation to me’, and
credits her family for her achievements.
She was always fascinated by God’s finest creations- human and nature. Further, inspired by the
beauty of the female form she loved painting women in different moods and phases of life. She has
also tried to capture her religious ambitions by invoking Indian Gods like Krishna, Buddha and Ganesha
using varied mediums like Oil, Acrylic, Poster and Water.
Her works were exhibited in Himachal State Museum in the year 1996-97 by ‘The All India Exhibition
of Art’. She was invited by ‘Shimla Bangiya Sammilani’ to judge in an open painting competition in
2001 at Kali Bari, Shimla.
Further, she exhibited and sold her paintings at ‘Athaa’ by Kala Academy, Panaji, Goa in the years 2010
& 2011 to collectors from all over the world. Two of her Solo exhibitions were at Gaiety Theater, Shimla
in year 2012 which met her with an over-whelming response.
Recently, she participated in an exhibition called ‘Musafir Hoon Yaaron’ at The India Habitat Center,
Her works are permanently displayed at Hotel Shingar, Shimla and The Sea Horse Resort, Goaand
Regenta Central Nagoa. She looks forward to explore more horizons and venture into institutional
contracts, like interiors.
